We meet on the third Thursday of every month except July and December, at the Haller Lake Community Club from 7:30 till 10:00 pm, with an educational pre-meeting demonstration and socializing happening at 7:00pm. The Haller Lake Community Club is located at 12579 Densmore Ave N, in north Seattle (see map below). There is parking in front as well as in back of the building.
The evening usually consists of a 7:00 pre-meeting 30-minute educational program, followed by club committee reports, informative fishing reports, a short social period, the night's speaker, and a raffle that wraps up the evening by nine.
Please feel free to join us for an evening of fishing fun, and make sure to introduce yourself so we can get to know you. Don’t forget to sign in at the membership table near the door; while you are there get additional information on joining the club. Also, pick up your free ticket at the raffle table.

Fly fishing, education, conservation, and fun
NFA Goals
The NFA is a social club based on a common interest in fly fishing. Joining the club is a great way to meet others who love fly fishing. The purposes of the club are mentioned in its constitution: fly fishing and encouraging others to fly fish; educating members and the general public in fly fishing and its related activities; and performing conservation activities that will preserve and protect the resources precious to all fly fishers.
Monthly Membership Meetings
As mentioned above, a membership meeting is held at the Haller Lake Community Center on the third Thursday of each month (except July and December). There is a Pre-meeting Educational Program at 7 and the business meeting starts at 7:30. After a refreshments break, a speaker gives the program for the evening. A raffle completes the evening.
July NFA Picnic
The annual NFA Picnic is held on the third Thursday in July instead of the monthly meeting. This in-city outing is a well-attended event since there are lots of activities for all members of the family and their friends. The club provides grilled entrees and drinks. Members bring potluck items such as appetizers, salads, side dishes, and desserts.
Besides eating and socializing there are organized games for the children and a casting competition.
Awards Banquet
In December we have our annual Awards Banquet instead of a monthly meeting. The catered banquet meal is followed by an Awards Ceremony that recognizes the efforts made by club members. The club's Service Award, Award of Merit, Memorial Award for Conservation, and the pretigious Dawn Holbrook Memorial Award are given out.
There is also a recap of the year with a video “Year-in-Review” showing fishing-related highlights of the past year.
This event is also a fundraiser consisting of many fine raffle and auction items.
Monthly Fishing Outings
The club schedules over a dozen fishing outings during the year. These fishing outings are not only times for fishing, but provide opportunities for socializing, mentoring, and a bit of conservation. The outings are to lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound.
Education
A series of NFA classes provide wonderful educational experiences for members and the general public. The classes include beginning and advanced fly tying, rod building, and beginning fly casting.
An informal, pre-meeting, educational program is given a half hour before each of the Monthly Meetings. Generally, this is a time when the evening’s speaker shares some skill (such as fly tying) with those interested. Members have also shared skills (knot tying) and shown their handiwork (landing nets, etc.).
The NFA Library is large and growing thanks to a $300 annual budget and generous donations from club members. The library’s collection contains books, magazines and videos of interest to both the beginner and seasoned angler. The collection is available to members at every monthly meeting.
Conservation
The club works with the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed, the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force, and other conservation organizations to remove invasive species and plant native trees along local rivers. These outings give members a chance to get their hands dirty with on-the-ground works that help improve the fly fishing environment. The outings are well attended and are usually followed by a late lunch at a local restaurant.
Club members also donate their time to help clean up the Yakima River in the spring and fall.
The club helps support several conservation organizations and choses one conservation group each year as the recipient of its prestigious Memorial Award for Conservation.

NFA members get outdoors to do hands-on conservation work
NFA members look upon conservation projects as a great way to get outdoors, get some exercise, and make a difference in preserving and improving the environment so vital to the health of fly fishing. For the last few years the club has been doing riparian tree plantings on the Cedar, Snoqualmie, and Stillaguamish Rivers. These are great activities for members and their families.
The NFA sends two kids to summer camp
In addition to the hands-on efforts made in behalf of the environment, the club has donated money to worthy environmental efforts. Each year the NFA provides two scholarships so a couple of kids can attend the Northwest Conservation and Fly Fishing Academy put on by Trout Unlimited. The scholarships go first to children of club members, otherwise the scholarships are do- nated to the Academy.
The NFA Conservation Award
At the October monthly meeting the membership picks the winner of the annual NFA Memorial Award for Conservation. Currently, the winning conservation organization receives $700.
Club membership in conservation organizations
The NFA is a member of the Washington Environmental Coun- cil, Wild Fish Conservancy, and the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF). Every year the club donates to the fund- raising raffle at FFF’s National Conclave.
